Eight Queens

Eight Queens is a chess puzzle first posed in 1848. A queen attacks along its row, its column and both diagonals. Your task is to place eight of them on a standard board so that no two are in line with each other.

There are 92 different solutions, yet finding even one by trial and error is harder than it sounds. Queens that attack each other turn red, and squares under attack can be shaded to guide you — switch the shading off if you want the pure challenge. Tap a queen again to pick it up and try another square.

Place eight queens with no two sharing a row, column or diagonal. The puzzle is solved when all eight are safe.
