“Yuehua,” he said quietly, “this is compensation. I’m sorry. I was wrong last night. I shouldn’t have taken advantage of you.”
Yehua stared at the screen showing the transfer, her expression blank. “Doctor Legare,” she said stiffly, “I’m not that kind of woman. I won’t take your money.”
Without another word, she turned and left.
She returned to the Legare Family Clinic first. Joaquin followed a while later, still distracted and unfocused. He could barely concentrate on his patients, and luckily, it was a slow day.
