Chapter 4943
Joaquin’s face turned pale. “How did Aitana know you stayed the night at my place? Did she come over?”
Yehua shook her head. “Doctor Pollock didn’t come, but she called me last night and asked about you. I told her you were asleep. Then she asked if I was still at your house. I said yes. She didn’t say much—just told me to take good care of you and hung up.” She hesitated for a moment, then added with a faint, knowing smile, “Doctor Pollock’s sharp. Do you really think she didn’t guess I stayed the night?”
Joaquin slowly stood up, rubbing his temples. “Yuehua, look… I was drunk last night. I don’t even know what I did. And nothing actually happened between us. Even if someone knew you stayed over, no one would think too much. I was completely drunk—anyone could see that.” He tried to sound calm, his voice faltering slightly. “I’ll… I’ll give you a raise. And some compensation, okay?”
He looked desperate not to be trapped by the consequences of one drunken mistake.
Yehua silently watched him for a moment, her eyes unreadable. Then she stood up, turned, and left the room without a word.
But she didn’t leave his house. Instead, she went straight to the kitchen. After a few minutes, the sound of clinking dishes echoed softly. She made a cup of honey water and placed it neatly on the dining table. Then she went back into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
