“That’s all I can really do,” Alex said. “I was thinking, if Belle were willing to stay with me, Grandma could stay here for ten days or even half a month. That way, I could at least do my part as a grandson.”
But then he thought of his little niece—barely more than a year old—and realized it wasn’t possible.
Belle couldn’t be away from her parents yet.
Besides, Zachary and Serenity probably wouldn’t feel comfortable letting their daughter stay over for that long. He usually just played with Belle when he visited, holding her for a bit and making her laugh. Taking care of her full-time, though—that was a different story. Raising a child was no small task.
Belle was still curious about everything and had no sense of danger. If anything happened to her, Alex knew he’d never forgive himself—and his brother and sister-in-law would be devastated.
The old lady smiled and said, “It’s enough for Grandma to know that you’re so thoughtful. I’ll come stay with you occasionally, maybe for a night or two. Then I can hear about how things are progressing between you and Aitana.”
Alex grinned. “Grandma, let’s be honest—if I didn’t have someone you liked, you wouldn’t even step through my door.”
