Winnie turned and headed toward the backyard, where she usually ran. The space was large enough that two laps were sufficient for her.
“Winnie,” Grandpa Francoeur called, “Grandpa called and invited Sonny over for breakfast. Is that okay?”
Winnie stopped and turned toward him.
“He helped me so much last night and even brought you home. We owe him a favor.”
“Grandpa, Sonny lives quite far from here. By the time he arrives, we’ll all be getting ready to leave for work.
“He’s not short of breakfast. We can treat him to a meal another day when we’re free. There’s no need to wake him up so early just to have breakfast with us.
“Sonny didn’t get back to his place until the early hours of the morning. He probably didn’t fall asleep until one or two. Let him sleep a little longer.
