Yima entered the house. When her elder brother saw her return, he didn’t say anything. He simply gave a couple of dissatisfied hums.
It was as if he were the one who had suffered some great injustice.
Yima didn’t greet him as she usually did. After sitting down, she waited for her sister-in-law to come in before asking, “Sister-in-law, where are Mom and Dad?”
“They went out to chat with the neighbors. They like going out every day to listen to everyone’s gossip, then coming back and telling us all about it.”
Emmett’s wife placed the tonics Yima had brought on the coffee table and said to her husband, “Yima knows you’re angry, so she brought over so many tonics. Don’t be angry anymore.”
She sat down beside Emmett and nudged him twice, urging him to say something.
“These supplements are for Mom, Dad, and my sister-in-law. They’re not an apology to my older brother or anything like that. I don’t need to apologize to anyone.”
