Titus looked at Timothy for a moment before asking, “How old are you this year?”
Timothy replied, “I’m over fifty now—old and useless.”
Titus said, “You’re in your fifties, not even sixty yet, so you’re hardly old. But if you want to retire, you can do it early. Since you believe your health isn’t good and that you’re too old to keep working, then retire. It wouldn’t be right to burden you with company matters anymore. After all, the company’s affairs are far more important.”
The clan’s responsibilities mainly involved distributing holiday gifts and overseeing ancestral ceremonies. Most of the time, people only came to the clan head when disputes arose that they couldn’t settle on their own.
There was rarely much to do.
Compared to running a business, clan affairs were incredibly easy. A clan head who focused solely on family matters could practically spend the day swatting flies out of boredom.
Timothy wanted to stay in the company while refusing to take over clan responsibilities. It was obvious he hoped to keep the new family head tied up with trivial matters while he continued acting however he pleased within the company.
