Belle looked a little embarrassed. “I feel bad… Sister Avah canceled her plans because of me.”
“After work, you and Avah aren’t boss and employee—you’re sisters,” Jane said gently, taking her arm. “Don’t feel guilty. I promised your mother I’d take good care of you.”
“Aunt Jane, I can take care of myself,” Belle said with a soft laugh. “I’m twenty-two now, not a child anymore.”
Jane smiled warmly. “No matter how old you are, you’ll always be a child in our eyes. I heard you’re still staying in the company dorm? Why not stay at a hotel or come live with us? Your family even has a house here.”
“It’s more convenient near the company,” Belle explained. “I’m working during my break, and my income is limited. I don’t want to overspend before I’ve even earned anything.”
The company dorm was the most practical option—close and affordable.
“That makes sense,” Iris said. “But if you ever need anything—or if someone treats you unfairly—you must speak up.”
