Joaquin opened his mouth, then closed it. “There’s no ‘if.’”
“So you do value her background,” Alex concluded.
Joaquin snapped back, “As if you don’t! She comes from a family of doctors. Everyone wishes they had medical connections — who wouldn’t want that advantage?”
Alex shrugged. “I don’t care about her family background. I like her for who she is. And my family’s doing fine — we know plenty of doctors already. I didn’t fall for Aitana because of her connections. I liked her the moment I saw her.”
