Chapter 4700
“Even if they were from different countries, love’s what matters. Same country, just different provinces? That’s nothing. We’ve got planes, high-speed trains—you can be there the same day. Distance isn’t the problem,” Donovan said, open-minded.
Maddox smirked. “Sounds like you can’t wait to marry your sister off to River.”
Donovan chuckled. “Romina’s almost thirty. If she doesn’t marry soon, my whole family’s going to be worried sick. She’s the oldest sister—if she stays single, her younger sisters won’t be in a hurry to marry either. My grandfather’s already concerned.”
As for the grandsons? The old man wasn’t worried. He believed men only became more attractive with age—mature, stable, desirable. But granddaughters? That was different. Once they reached a certain age, people became pickier, and the best men were already taken.
In elite families, marriages were often set in motion when children were still teenagers—grooming them as childhood sweethearts before marrying them off as adults. In that world, truly good men and women were always in short supply.
Romina wasn’t unpopular among the elders, but she was fiercely independent. She refused to let anyone dictate her life, determined to choose her own partner rather than walk the carefully paved road set by the family.
Old Mr. Lafond adored Donovan and Romina, spoiling them both. But that very indulgence had left Romina single well past the age most women in their circle were married. Now, even he was beginning to worry.
