On the way back, River stuffed his suitcase with gifts for the Lafayette elders.
“Did you know my parents already returned from their trip?” Romina asked.
River chuckled. “Didn’t you tell me yourself? You said they’d been back a few days.”
Romina pressed her lips together and laughed. “Right—I completely forgot.”
The taxi ride home didn’t feel lonely with him by her side. She hadn’t bothered to call the family driver; instead, she and River simply rode back together.
When the taxi stopped at the Lafayette villa, River paid the fare and hopped out, immediately taking charge of the luggage.
He grabbed both suitcases before Romina could reach for one. She protested, but he brushed her off.
