“Dad, where’s Winnie?” Mrs. Francoeur asked in surprise. “Didn’t she travel with you?”
Old Master Francoeur replied calmly, “She went back to the company first. I’m getting old—after a long flight, I’m too tired. She told me to come home and rest.”
He glanced at the gathered relatives and greeted them politely, “You’re all here.”
Her brothers and in-laws quickly stepped forward to greet him.
The driver and bodyguard began unloading the luggage.
Noticing the two large suitcases, Mrs. Francoeur asked, “You only took two small ones when you left—why bring back such big ones?”
As they walked inside, Old Master Francoeur explained, “They were gifts from the matriarch of the York family. She and Winnie got along well. Knowing we were returning today, she sent quite a lot.”
