Iris said, “Don’t worry. As long as you’re willing to learn, I can definitely find someone to teach you. Once you’ve mastered it, why don’t you knit one for your mom too?”
Hendrix replied, “Once I learn, I’ll definitely make one for you. But Mom, can we discuss something first? Can I knit one for Avah before yours?”
Iris immediately refused. “You should knit one for me first. Since you’re just starting out, your work will probably be a little rough. If you give it to me, I won’t judge your craftsmanship.”
She continued, “Besides, after finishing a whole sweater, you’ll gain real experience. Then you can make one for Avah. You should give her the best version, right?”
Hendrix thought about it and realized his mother made sense.
“Alright,” he agreed. “Once I learn, I’ll knit one for you first—and one for Dad too. Winter is still a long way off anyway. It doesn’t even get that cold here—just a few chilly days each year. By the time winter comes, I’ll definitely have finished a sweater for Avah. I’ll give it to her then as a surprise.”
Iris chuckled. “Go for it, son. You have my full moral support. Honestly, it’s been years since I’ve seen anyone knit a sweater. I never expected my own son would want to learn. I guess I should thank Titus for giving me the chance to wear a sweater hand-knitted by my son.”
