Hendrix didn’t disturb Avah. He quietly sat down on the sofa in the lounge area.
The secretary brought him a glass of water and asked in a low voice, “Is there anything else you need, President Osborne? Please feel free to let me know.”
“Nothing else, thank you,” Hendrix replied just as softly.
“Then I’ll return to my work.” The secretary glanced at the insulated lunchbox and added quietly, “President Johnson has a meeting in half an hour. It’s scheduled to last about an hour.”
Hendrix immediately understood the hint.
He had to make sure Avah drank the nourishing soup he brought within the next thirty minutes—otherwise, she wouldn’t have time to touch his “soup of love” at all.
“Thank you,” Hendrix said again in a whisper.
