After breakfast, Sonny and Chairman Francoeur sat with Winnie in the restaurant a while longer, continuing their conversation.
Sonny was clearly eager to leave, and the Francoeur grandfather and granddaughter urged him not to delay.
“My aunt sent Baby to pick us up,” Sonny explained, which was why he seemed in such a hurry.
Winnie smiled. “Aunt Seren is too kind. We could’ve driven ourselves.”
Then she asked, “Mr. Brown, does ‘Baby’ refer to Young Master York?”
Sonny nodded. “Yes, that’s his nickname. My aunt got pregnant a little over a year after she got married. He was her first child—the eldest son and grandson of the York family. Everyone treasured him like a jewel. When he was born, they kept calling him ‘baby,’ and the name just stuck. Later, when his sister was born, they named her Belle. Put together, their names mean ‘baby’—their parents’ precious child.”
