“We’re all relieved you’ve moved on,” Aunt Pollock said. “You have no idea how worried we were after your breakup. You were drowning in sadness—you couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and you lost so much weight. We were terrified you wouldn’t recover. Thankfully, you did.”
Aitana whispered apologetically, “I’m sorry for worrying everyone that year, Aunt. After that experience, I really didn’t dare to hope for love anymore. I was afraid of meeting someone who only wanted to climb the social ladder. But seeing how happy my friends and classmates are in their marriages… it made me believe in love again.”
It wasn’t that love was bad—only that she’d met the wrong man.
“We never liked your first boyfriend anyway,” Aunt Pollock said bluntly. “Breaking up was the best thing that could’ve happened. Now you can meet someone better. I believe happiness is waiting for you. Let that jerk regret it all he wants.”
