Zachary returned to the room. Serenity had just finished showering and stepped out of the bathroom, her hair still slightly damp.
“Are the boys asleep?” she asked softly.
“I turned off the lights for them. They should drift off soon. Those three played like wild animals last night. Belle started crying for her mom, and only then did they calm down.”
Zachary walked over and pulled his wife into his arms. “Honey, don’t you think it feels sweeter when it’s just the two of us? Ever since we had kids, we can’t even talk loudly without worrying we’ll wake them.”
Let alone be affectionate.
These days, they only dared to get close when their daughter was asleep beside them. Otherwise, they were always afraid their little girl would wake up at the wrong moment.
“Weren’t you the one who wanted kids so badly?” Serenity teased. “I didn’t get pregnant for six months after we got married, and everyone thought I couldn’t have children. You never said anything, but you were anxious inside. You’ve always loved kids.”
