Chapter 4990
“Alex wasn’t just saying that casually,” Joaquin continued, his tone sharp with frustration. “You should’ve seen the way he looks at you—his eyes light up every time. That’s not friendship, Aitana, that’s infatuation. And don’t be fooled by the York family’s so-called ‘good reputation.’ That’s all branding—an image they’ve built for the public. Look at their wives. Do you see a single ordinary woman among them? They’re all from powerful families, educated, and accomplished.
“They marry their equals. Even that so-called ‘Cinderella’ eldest daughter-in-law they talk about turned out to come from wealth too. None of those stories about humble love are real. A true Cinderella story doesn’t exist in their world.”
Aitana’s tone remained calm, almost cool. “Whether that image is genuine or not has nothing to do with me. I told you, Alex and I are just neighbors—just ordinary friends. Please stop trying to read something else into it.”
She had no desire to climb any social ladder. Alex’s background didn’t change how she viewed him. Whether he was a young master or an average man, he was simply someone who lived upstairs, someone she occasionally shared fruit and conversation with.
When Aitana made friends, she cared about character, not wealth or status.
“Senior,” she continued evenly, “I’ve known who Alex really is since the beginning. But I have no romantic feelings for him, so I don’t care about his background. He’s never lied to me.”
