She picked up the parenting book and flipped through a few pages. After reading two, she lost interest, closed it, and put it back in its place.
Then she glanced over at the chessboard her grandfather and father had left unfinished.
She smiled, made a move for her grandfather, then sat down on her father’s side and finished the game. As usual, it was her father who lost—he was no match for her grandfather’s skill.
After sitting there a while, Romina got up and paced the hall to help digest the midnight snack she’d eaten earlier.
It was nearly midnight when she finally went upstairs.
