“It’s not your first time buying a house,” Rowan said. “When have you ever done everything yourself? Brother, you seem to value this house a lot. Is there something you’re not telling me?”
Rowan felt Alex’s attitude toward the Wiltspoon Garden house was different.
In the past, the York brothers bought villas one after another. Occasionally they’d buy a house, like Zachary did to conceal his identity and court Serenity. But even then, Zachary never oversaw the decoration himself. He always bought fully furnished homes, ready to move into with just a suitcase.
Zachary’s deception had nearly cost him Serenity. That became a warning to the other brothers: when in love, be honest. There was no need to buy a house to deceive someone.
So Rowan suspected something more behind Alex’s purchase.
“You went with me to see the house,” Alex said. “I just like the place. What else could there be?”
He broke off to hand Belle a snack, his gaze soft. “You took these two little ones out. Does Grandma know? Don’t go home and get a beating.”
