“Are your brothers easy to get along with?” Romina asked softly.
A dragon gives birth to nine sons, and each one is different. River’s brothers weren’t all biological siblings—many were cousins—so their personalities were even more varied. Romina couldn’t help worrying about whether she’d get along with River’s brothers and sisters-in-law.
She hadn’t expected there would come a day when she didn’t feel confident. Maybe she cared too much about River, hoping his family would like her.
“My brothers are easy to get along with, and my sisters-in-law are all approachable,” River reassured her. “No matter how much I say, you’ll still be worried. You’ll see for yourself when we get home.”
Even as River tried to comfort her, Romina remained anxious. When they were nearly home, he stopped talking and let her gather her own impressions.
Romina smiled ruefully. “I didn’t think I, Romina, could ever get nervous. River, it’s all your fault—you won my heart.”
River gazed at her affectionately. “And you won mine. Remember how confident I was when I met your family and friends? I wasn’t worried at all. Besides, it’ll be just the two of us living together. As long as we appreciate, understand, and trust each other, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or says. They’re not the ones living our lives.”
