Rosella said warmly,
“Then you should get some proper rest. After two days, bring Romina back. We’ll welcome her with open arms.”
Truthfully, Rosella wanted nothing more than for River to bring Romina home immediately.
She had already seen Romina’s photos through Serenity and heard glowing praise about her, even knowing that Romina had met her future in-laws. Still, Rosella worried. A photo wasn’t the same as meeting her future daughter-in-law face to face.
Often, she would complain to Old Lady York about her concerns. The matriarch would always reassure her, saying, “Trust River. The woman he loves won’t be a bad choice.” She urged Rosella to stop fretting so much.
Rosella’s sisters-in-law also comforted her.
“If you can’t trust River, then at least trust Old Lady York. She raised eight of the York children herself—don’t you think her judgment is sharp enough?”
Indeed, of the nine York siblings, only the youngest, Rowan, hadn’t been raised directly by their grandparents. But even he had eight older brothers watching over him.
Rowan often joked, “How could I ever dare stray? If I misstep, each of my eight brothers will give me a beating. That’s eight punishments in one!”
