His sister Jane was close friends with Serenity, River’s eldest sister, and their families stayed connected. Right now, Jane and her family were living at Wildridge Manor.
Johnathan only had one sister, Jane, and one child, Luis. Naturally, Luis spent plenty of time with his cousins. They didn’t see each other every day, but they video chatted often.
No doubt the kids talked about the York family’s fathers, about how involved they were. Maybe hearing those stories made Luis wish for the same.
Johnathan glanced at his son, now happily playing with his new toys, and guilt settled heavy in his chest.
How much time had he really spent with his boy since he’d learned to walk? Very little. His wife had been there for Luis, but a mother’s love couldn’t replace a father’s presence.
He had assumed Luis was content—after all, he had his mother, nannies, bodyguards, and more toys than he could ever play with. He thought that was enough. He never imagined his son longed for something so simple: his dad’s company.
Sariyah spoke gently, “Johnathan works long hours, leaves early and gets home late. Holidays don’t make much difference. I have my own work too, but I always carve out mornings and evenings for Luis. I’ve told him to make time, but it’s hard for your brother Johnathan to slow down.”
