She placed a hand on her brother’s shoulder. “Trenton, Nancy’s a good woman. Cherish her. You’re in your twenties now—you should understand that every choice has consequences. People choose their own paths, and they must walk them. Live your own life, and don’t let yourself get caught up in things that don’t matter.”
Camryn wanted her brother to move forward. As for Carrie—if she was alive and could fend for herself, that was enough.
In two years, Trenton would marry and start a family. If Carrie came back, she would almost certainly cause tension. Nancy might not have in-laws to make her life hard, but a sister-in-law like Carrie would be a problem.
Carrie’s nature was unchangeable. Even if life improved, she’d find a way to ruin it.
