Miss Olson gave a short laugh. “So I’m not the one you like. Got it.”
Trenton paused, then said quietly, “Miss Olson, I know you look down on my family background. That alone means I could never like you. It’s a dead end.”
The smile faded from Miss Olson’s face. She hadn’t expected him to call her out like that.
“I’m in a hurry, Miss Olson. Please excuse me,” Trenton said politely. He held the bouquet tightly and walked toward the subway entrance.
She watched him leave. After a moment, she rolled up her window and muttered to herself, “I don’t have to have him. It’s not like I really liked him anyway.”
She did look down on his past. His parents were criminals—cold, ruthless, and responsible for people’s deaths.
And he was their son. Who could say what he might become?
