“Aren’t you heading back to the company today?” Romina asked, now that she’d learned about River’s family background. She decided to change the subject.
River replied, “Yeah, I’ve got a meeting later, and I need to discuss a deal with President Sutton. Romina, would you have dinner with me tonight?”
Romina didn’t say yes. Instead, she replied, “River, I’m really busy. My schedule’s packed this week—I only have some time on the weekend. And I’m not considering dating you. Our relationship stays the same for now.”
Just because she knew about his background didn’t mean she suddenly considered him a romantic partner. There were still unresolved issues between them.
River smiled. “That’s fine. I’ve got a lifetime to prove myself. Whether or not you accept me is your choice—but chasing you is mine.”
Romina suddenly said, “President Sutton really likes you. And she’s got very high standards. I’ve known her for years. She worked her way up from an entry-level job to where she is now.”
