Winnie’s expression darkened. “If you keep this up, I’ll never come to Wiltspoon again. And stop bringing up Sonny’s father. That’s his father’s business—it has nothing to do with him.”
She added firmly, “If you mention it again, I’ll tell Sonny that you dislike his father for having an affair back then—and that you think the Brown family has bad genes.”
Old Master Francoeur immediately raised his hands in surrender.
“Alright, alright. I won’t say another word,” he said quickly. “Sonny is Sonny, and his father is his father. Sonny is a good man, okay?”
He went on with a helpless smile, “He really is too perfect. I can’t find a single flaw in him, so I end up nitpicking and bringing up mistakes his father made twenty or thirty years ago.”
Winnie frowned. “Who hasn’t made mistakes in life? Grandpa, can you honestly say you’ve never made any?”
