Chapter 5272
Old Master Labbe believed that if he could find that child during his lifetime, kill him, and obtain the family head’s token, then his grandson—who was even more ruthless than his son—could inherit the position along with the token.
That way, the position of head of the Labbe family would remain within their branch of the family.
If the son wasn’t capable enough, a capable grandson would suffice.
For that reason, Old Master Labbe continued supporting Timothy as the acting head while warning the illegitimate children outside the family not to covet the position. He told them that he wouldn’t interfere with whatever wealth they accumulated through their own businesses.
The Labbe family, however, must always be inherited by the children born to his wife.
This essentially preserved the tradition of direct-line succession, except that Timothy’s branch had temporarily taken control.
Before Renata could respond, Landen continued, “But the Labbe family has always been ruled by the direct bloodline. Even Mr. Labbe, the acting head, can’t escape that mindset.”
