At Wildridge Manor’s amusement park, several children were playing wildly. Serenity and Camryn sat with Lilian under a nearby pavilion, chatting while keeping an eye on the little ones.
With so many children together, the atmosphere was lively and cheerful. Even Avah, who was usually calm and composed, had become noticeably more animated.
Lilian’s gaze, however, was almost entirely fixed on Belle.
She said to Serenity, “If your daughter is willing to be my apprentice, I can make an exception and take on another one.”
“Serenity, the two of you should really think about it. Let Belle become my apprentice. I’ll take her back with me and teach her personally. I won’t trouble my master—everything I’ve learned, I’ll pass on to her myself. I’ll raise her like my own daughter. In twenty years, I guarantee I’ll return you a daughter skilled in both literature and martial arts, proficient in medicine and poison alike.”
Camryn glanced at her and said dryly, “If you want someone else’s daughter, you could at least be honest about it.”
Lilian sighed. “Of course I want her. But if I said it outright, Zachary would throw me out and ban me from ever stepping foot in the York family again. How would I dare? Belle is even cuter than Avah was as a child. Just looking at her brightens my mood.”
