“It’s okay,” Aitana said gently. “I don’t need you to pick me up every night. I can ride home by myself.”
“But I already bought movie tickets,” Alex said, pulling them out. “The show starts at 9:05.”
She thought for a moment. “Then wait here. I’ll ride back, park my scooter, and come out again.”
“Okay.”
Aitana turned around, rode back to the hospital, parked her scooter, and walked out. Alex waited nearby, then turned his bike around as well.
Once she got on, Alex said, “I called your second uncle earlier to let him know we’re going to the movies and won’t be back early. I asked him to leave the door open for you.”
“I have my own key,” Aitana said. “As long as he doesn’t lock the door.”
