Yehua said softly, “Dr. Legare has always felt guilty toward you—ashamed, both of himself and on your behalf. Your second uncle treated him like his own student. He often said he learned a great deal from him, but because of his mother, he feels he has no face left to see you or your family.”
“He put tremendous pressure on himself,” she continued. “For a while, he was distracted even while treating patients. I spoke to him several times before he finally improved.”
After all, Joaquin was a doctor. Being absent-minded day after day was dangerous. Even a moment of carelessness during treatment could lead to serious consequences.
Yehua had worked alongside Joaquin for several years and learned a great deal from him. Whenever she administered injections or dispensed medication, she carefully double-checked the prescriptions he wrote. If she noticed a problem, she corrected it immediately to prevent any mistakes.
Aitana said calmly, “Senior Joaquin brought his mother to apologize. I accepted her apology and told him clearly—it was his mother’s fault, not his.”
When the incident happened, Joaquin had still been asleep. He had no idea his mother would go to the hospital and verbally abuse Aitana.
In his heart, Joaquin had long known there was no future between himself and Aitana. He believed that even if they couldn’t be husband and wife, they could at least remain friends.
