“Actually,” Alex continued, “Wildridge Manor isn’t the York family’s real ancestral home. The true old house is somewhere else. It’s a genuine ancient building—very old—and it needs repairs from time to time to make sure it doesn’t collapse.
“We haven’t lived there for years. Only a few years ago, when my eldest brother was hiding his identity from my sister-in-law, he brought her there for the New Year. That was the only time the whole family stayed there together again.”
Aitana had heard about that love story and couldn’t help asking, her curiosity piqued,
“How did your eldest brother manage to hide his identity for so long before his whirlwind marriage?”
Alex chuckled. “The entire family played along with him. Honestly, we were all at fault—we owe my sister-in-law an apology.
“But my brother insisted, so we had no choice but to cooperate. At the time, he suspected my sister-in-law was after money. Before the marriage, he’d only met her two or three times. We had met her too, but none of us knew her well.”
“Because my grandmother pressured him into marrying her, she tripped and fell during a walk and suffered a minor injury. My sister-in-law took her to the hospital. Whether it was intentional or accidental… no one can say for sure. Some of us even suspected it was deliberate.”
“My grandmother knows martial arts,” Alex added calmly. “She’s very skilled. In her youth, she wasn’t just powerful in business.”
