“Yes,” the old lady replied. “They’ll be here soon. River was just worried his sweetheart might feel awkward, so he said having the kids around would liven things up and help her relax.”
Callum laughed. “River really is thoughtful.”
“That’s right,” the old lady said proudly. “That boy, slow as he may be, is actually better at winning a girl’s heart than you ever were.”
“Grandma, I wasn’t that bad, was I?” Callum protested, then turned to his wife. “Wife, when I was pursuing you, wasn’t I considerate? Didn’t I treat you well?”
Camryn tapped his cheek lightly. “Not at all. I couldn’t even see you back then, and you still insisted I bring flowers to your office. You have no idea how exhausting those trips were. You call that considerate? I didn’t even accept your feelings at the time, and you were already taking liberties with me. How is that supposed to win someone’s heart?”
