That said, Donovan had always praised River in front of her. He often spoke of River as a powerful rival—one he wished he wouldn’t have to compete against forever. Long before Romina and River realized their feelings for each other, Donovan hoped the two companies would stop their cutthroat battles. The Lafayette Group didn’t always come out ahead, and constant losses were draining and costly.
Of course, Romina never mentioned this to River. Otherwise, he’d never stop bragging.
River said, “I know you make the decisions, but I still have to win over my future brother-in-law.”
“You really don’t have to,” Romina replied. “My brother’s always admired you.”
River grinned proudly. “Well, of course. I’m exceptional—everyone says so.”
