Rowan smiled and said, “Forget it. I won’t ask. That’s my eldest sister-in-law’s private money and the others’. Why should I care?”
He knew the mistress of the York family oversaw many small businesses. The income from those businesses became the pocket money for the women who married into the family and covered various villa expenses. The men managed the outside world; the women handled the inside. All he and his brothers had to do was protect the family’s ancestral foundation.
The two brothers went to Wordisk Garden and toured several houses. In the end, Alex bought a large flat. He signed the contract on the spot and paid the deposit.
When they left Wordisk Garden, Rowan stayed behind. His myna wanted to wander around alone and get familiar with the area. Rowan had always felt something was off about the bird, but he couldn’t pinpoint it, so he headed back to Wildridge Manor by himself.
Once home, Rowan went straight to Serenity with a question. “Sister-in-law, are all the shops on Wordisk Street ours?”
“Wordisk Street?” Serenity paused, then nodded. “Yes, they’re ours. What’s the problem?”
“Brother Alex just asked me to take him to Wordisk Garden to look at houses, and he bought a large flat on the spot. Is there still room for appreciation there? Even if there is, why didn’t he buy more? He said he plans to live there himself, but what’s the benefit? It’s kind of far from the office.”
