As soon as they stepped inside, Luis slipped free from River’s hand and ran toward Johnathan, shouting with pure excitement, “Daddy!”
“Hey there!” Johnathan answered warmly. The moment Luis reached him, Johnathan scooped him up, kissing his chubby cheeks. “Daddy missed his little Luis so much.”
Luis clung to him and said softly, “Daddy, I missed you even more. I haven’t seen you for such a long time. You left early this morning when I was still sleeping, and when you came back, I was already asleep again.”
Johnathan chuckled. “It hasn’t been that long. You’ve only just started summer break, and you’ve been sleeping in. Normally you’d be up early for kindergarten, and we’d go out together.”
To Johnathan, it felt like no time at all—they saw each other every day.
But Luis burrowed into his father’s arms and whispered, “It’s boring playing by myself. I don’t want to wake up too early because I don’t want to be bored for so long. If I wake up late, I’m bored for a shorter time.”
Johnathan tried to reason with him. “Bored? We have so many toys here. I even built you your own little amusement park. The nanny plays with you whenever you want.”
