“Honey, you’re busy with work, and Alex is fine. We can stay and look after him. You should head back,” Serenity told Zachary.
Earlier, Alex didn’t even want to be hospitalized, and Zachary had to insist on keeping him here. Now, Zachary was worried he’d need to discharge Alex—yet Alex didn’t even want to leave.
Elian chimed in. “Brother, Sister-in-law, you two can go. Third Brother and I will stay with Alex. Once the test results come back clear, his butler will handle things.”
Alex had a house in the city and a butler for household chores, so someone would be around.
Alex also urged Zachary and Serenity to leave. Having Kevin and Elian there was stressful enough—but with Zachary, the pressure tripled. Alex felt that even if his injuries weren’t serious, Zachary’s stern presence might make them worse.
His respect for Zachary went way back to childhood. Even now, nearly thirty and successful in his own right, Alex still didn’t dare act out in front of him. He was cautious with every word and move.
What Alex feared most? Messing up and getting scolded. Worse than that—a beating. Zachary rarely resorted to force, but that didn’t mean never. Still, after Serenity came along, things changed. Zachary softened, especially after having a son and daughter. If he was too harsh, Serenity would step in and keep things from going too far.
