Romina felt a quiet relief knowing River’s attention was on her.

“Romina, time to call it a day,” River said, smiling. His voice was warm, almost melodic.
She returned the smile naturally. “I’m off. Sorry for making you wait.”
“It’s fine,” he said easily. “I could wait all night if I had to.”
He handed her the flowers. “You look great like this—very natural.”
“I didn’t feel like going all the way home to change,” she explained. “So I used the lounge. I keep more than a dozen outfits there for emergencies.” She glanced at him. “You changed too, didn’t you?”
Romina’s sharp eyes caught the detail. She reached up, brushing his chin lightly. “And you shaved. You’re always quick to get rid of stubble. What would you look like with a beard? Would it hide that handsome face?”
