“Uncle River’s holding you now,” he said gently. “Uncle River worked hard all day, but he really wanted to come home and see you both. You two are my happiness pills. Seeing you makes everything better.”
Maverick looked up at him. “Then my sister and I will stay here with you for a few days. Mom can go back to work. Ask Second Aunt to send Lele and the others over too. That way we’ll have more friends to play with, and you won’t have to watch us all by yourself.”
River chuckled. “Oh, I see. You guys had so much fun, you don’t want to leave. But if all seven of you come live with me, how will Uncle River get any work done?”
“We’re just teasing!” Maverick grinned. “We actually do want to go home. We miss Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.”
